Innovative barn requires extra soil protection
In the eastern region of the Netherlands, an innovative barn was constructed for a dairy farm. Unlike traditional barns where cows stand in rows, this new barn allows the animals to roam freely within the space. While this design promotes animal welfare and freedom of movement, it also comes with a challenge: the cows distribute their waste throughout the barn rather than in specific areas.
This change makes traditional waste collection systems, such as gutter channels under standing areas, ineffective. However, it remains important to prevent harmful substances in manure—including nitrates and ammonia—from infiltrating the soil. Therefore, municipal safety regulations required the installation of a film layer underneath the concrete floor. These measure ensures that the environment remains free from potential contamination.
Our expert welding team traveled to the dairy farm to install a durable ENPEX FPP film under the barn’s foundation, commissioned by our longstanding partner Milieusystemen Tiel. Our welders installed almost 1,000 m2 of KIWA certified ENPEX FPP 0,75 mm. Now, the cows can roam freely and comfortably while the environment remains fully protected!
